It is the mission of Wildthing wildlife consultants to protect and conserve...

Since 1945 we have lost

One of the key roles of Wildthing is to protect and conserve the biodiversity of the natural and built environment of Kent and Sussex. Biodiversity is quite simply the whole variety of life on Earth. When we look at biodiversity we need to consider all species of plants (flora) and animals (fauna) and the complex ecosystems which they make up.

At the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 150 countries came together to sign the “Convention on Biological Diversity”, The United Kingdom was one of them and like the other 149 countries the UK shared a global concern that human activities are changing and destroying habitats and natural environments at a worrying pace. The loss of biodiversity was devastating.

By signing this convention the UK was committed to action to stop this alarming decline in flora and fauna. In 1994 the UK Biodiversity Action Plan was published as part of the UK’s contribution to global biodiversity. In 1997 Kent produced it’s version of an action plan.

Since then many adjustments and improvements have been made to both the UK and county BAPs and more proactive management is beginning to take shape. Wildthing are very much a part of this proactive management to increase awareness and offer expert advice which we hope will mitigate against loss of flora and fauna and adverse human activity in the South East.
